Bad Secondary can lock up a box ?

If the faulty secondary "puts crap" (technical term) across the shared cable
then yes it will affect the primary.  I came across this recently on a server;
the secondary died, then the primary went shortly after it.  Pulling the
secondary revived the primary, which appeared to be good all along.
