If you specified /dev/hdb7 as the destination path for the copy, is it 
possible that MC has copied the contents of the home folder to somewhere 
in /dev on your root file system?  Try looking for a /dev/home or a 
/dev/hdb7 directory under /dev (as opposed to the /dev/hdb7 device file 
which would normally be present).
