Adam,
As I mentioned, its only caused if your router/dns server doesnt understand
AAAA records properly. Those that do do not cause a a problem because they
will let send an error message immediately, but some of the dumber dns
servers just ignore the request if they dont understand it, forcing the
client to retry after timeout.
This was actually a really difficult problem to debug at first, but a good
rule of thumb is that if the system stalls on boot its usually DNS related.
Luckily most modern routers are starting to be smarter about it, but you
still sometimes find a dud one here and there.
