Actually, the development is now focused on Eduroa. The site doesn't say
that "Thunderbird suddenly became Eudora" or vice versa. What it does
say, is that Quallcomm have chosen to use the Mozilla Application
Framework to develop the open source version of Eudora.
This should be good news if the porters get the application port right.
Having dabbled in writing for the Mozilla application framework myself,
it's not too difficult to write cross-platform (including FreeBSD,
GNU/Linux, OpenSolaris etc) applications with a bit of care.
Having said that, though, I've always considered Mozilla Application
based applications as faster than Java applications but noticably
"slower" than native applications. By "slower" I mean that they seem to
suffer latency in their response time compared to say, a gtk+ program or
a Windows native program (running on Windows).
