Regardless of all that, ADSL provisioning in Australia has a "service
qualification" phase which establishes whether the line is going to work
specifically to avoid that problem.
If you have ADSL, it means ADSL will work. If it doesn't work you report
a fault to your ISP and they get it fixed.
The notion that "long lines" will cause ADSL to be flaky in Australia
due to attenuation is false. Don't accept a crappy service from any ISP.
