Diligent ADSL modems recommendations.

Dear list.
It's been ages since we've had a DSL (not Lloyd) discussion, so here goes.
I'm an ADSL subscriber. Scratch that, I'm a *country* ADSL subscriber,
so as such have issues with wonky phone lines (I believe this is the
correct AUSTEL approved term). Said phone line has had a long and
chequered past. Initially I was using a D-Link DSL-300G modem (in
bridged mode) which, although it had a pretty bad SNMP implementation,
at least I was able to see outages through the CLI (and in detail,
showing DSL, ATM and VC outages, and VC congestion!). But people (read:
support) kept harping on about using a newer modem, advances in modem
chipset, blah blah, so I've stuck a DSL-502T on the link. Well, the
outages went away, or at least, stopped being reported. In fact, I'm
deeply suspicious as I still seem to get the 30 to 45 seconds "freezes"
as before (particularly after the rains), but the modem reports squat.
Diddly. Bugger all. (BTW, this doesn't coincide with any PPP outages,
so I can't use the firewall logs to support whether I've had an outage
or not).
So dear, gentle list, can you recommend a DSL modem that:
* Runs in bridged mode, but is still IP accessible
* Has decent stats on its DSL interface that you would trust
Bonus would be:
* SNMP and/or CLI (I hate web scrapping stats, but will if I have to).
* Could pull an ADSL signal out of 12 kilometers of damp twine.
Cheers.
