I had this problem as well and ended up using the -alternate- ISO...
I found that the installer was a bit picky.. i needed to put /boot on
raid with no LVM, and make the /boot partition only after finishing all
the LVM configuration.... then the installer would work and would use
grub (instead of lilo)...
I thought that for a 'idiot-proof' distribution not doing LVM/RAID in
the installer sort of sucked. I'm dead sure redhat has been doing this
for eons...
