You could use sfdisk to dump the partition table from old disk to new
disk. Strange that the 'old' disk partition table is ok, but the new
isn't ?? Same sized disks etc??

-d Dump the partitions of a device in a format useful as input to
sfdisk. For example,
% sfdisk -d /dev/hda > hda.out
% sfdisk /dev/hda < hda.out
