Telecoms Operating in Oz

Greetings,
This is slightly OT, but there is alot of Telco knowledge on this list so I 
am hoping the answer might be readily available. 

I am shortly to return to Oz from the Uk. I have obtained over here, and 
Alcatel Speed Touch USB ADSL modem, and a portable Telephone (not a mobile), 
and I'm wondering whether these devices are likely to work on the standard 
phone systems in Oz, or whether I'm up for new hardware on my return ?
