I have 2 of those drives. One just failed a couple of months ago. Seagate
used to be bullett-proof, but now I'm not so sure. Back it up and send it
back.
Seagate had a problem with their 40 and 80G disks more recently. There was a
/. post about it. Apparantly they had a bad run of platters that would
develop bad sectors very easily (or something to that effect).
BTW, in relation to your more recent post - mine both run very hot. Under
high loads they can get too hot to touch, and there is a fan right in front
of them blowing cool air over them.
