Richard,

That is probably the best idea and should work well assuming you select
the right antenna for the job. May I suggest chatting with your local
wireless enthusiasts through the Air-Stream forums ->
http://air-stream.org/forums/ . Many of these guys have the required
hardware (such as the flyleads 'pigtails' and suitable antennae) and for
the more hands-on approach you could even make a simple antenna
yourself. If you need more info I can direct you to some local
suppliers. hth
