There is a GPL java project called GanttProject on sourceforge that does
some task scheduling stuff, but I don't think it is anything near the
complexity of MS Project. I am currently modifying it for work, but I am
focused on the Gantt Chart display rather than the project planning. It
could be made into an applet without much effort, although there would
be security complications with saving files.
