ifup ppp0 -- modem activity on internal modem

Hi all,

I've just completed a major overhaul of my linux box.
Redhat 9, KDE.
I started using kmail as I had done in Redhat 8, but I believe it has a
MAJOR bug. At some stage it freezes and leaves Caps-lock and num-lock
blinking, while everything else is TOTALLY motionless.
So I've transferred everything to ximian, hopefully with more success.

The motherboard I am using had only one com port which I use for the
mouse, so I've installed an el cheapo internal modem, which I got
working (thanks to DSL for advice).

I'm using /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup ppp0 to connect, and this
is where my question comes in.....

QUESTION: Does anyone know of a network monitor that will show onscreen
when there is modem activity?
I used to have a tool called redhat network monitor, but that no longer
seems to be part of the whole setup.

So, how can I tell if there is modem activity, I need the equivalent of
flashing lights or so.

thanks,

kind regards,

Luke
