yes its quite common. we had lots of 1U machines with this
fault. we had a batch of PCI risers that 'moved' around in the
slot when there were significant heat changes in the case.

so we opted for an alternative supplier and didn't have
any repeat problems. as we needed the four port tulip NICs

the are a dozen Realtec cards that are made in this form factor,
but i would suggest the Intel PRO 100 server NICs. much more
reliable, with better drivers that just work(tm) under Linux
and FreeBSD =)
