Re: bsd- easier than you think

Yup. My thoughts also.

As far as I'm concerned, both BSD and GPL are good licences. Non-free
software distributed without sources is 'bad'. If only BSD and GPL
existed, then either would be fine with me, but because GPL makes it
more difficult to release 'closed' software I prefer GPL to BSD.

Its not about righteousness, kudos, or reputation, but is instead about
encouraging an environment where ideas are freely shared.

Neither BSD or GPL are against selling software, but both seem to be
more about charging for a *service* than a *product*. To me, this makes
more sense for software anyway.

What is interesting, is that I feel that all this is somehow different
for music. I'm a muso, and would probably consider releasing original
music under copyleft (distribute, but don't sell without permission).
[or maybe I wouldn't. If I do either I'll let you know ;-] I guess this
is somewhat hypocritical, and would be interested to hear others'
thoughts...
