Hmmm, I don't think you can conclude that. Where are you deriving those
numbers from?
2003, IIRC, was shown to perform at around 13xx MBits/s on an 8-way box
with 4GB of memory, many GigE adapters and the Alacritech TOEs!
I am sure that Alacritech has drivers for Linux and FreeBSD, and the CPU
that offloading buys you back on Windows will also be available under
Linux and FreeBSD.
If you look at the figures for with and without TOEs, you will see what
the difference is.
I would expect similar hardware to behave in similar ways, perhaps better
with Linux/FreeBSD and Samba. Add to that the sendfile support in Samba
and Linux or FreeBSD and it might get somewhat better.
