Auto start a application

Hi, I have write a program, it has a simple interface. I want to auto start it while my system boot up. I wrote a script program at /etc/rc.d/init.d and also make a symbolic link to it at /etc/rc.d/rc5.d, when the system starts, it can load my program, but it hold the screen at the interface of my program, don't continue to login the system..what is the problem? Can anyone help me? Shirley
