dns confusion

On FreeBSD 4.7, When I restart named with 'ndc stop' and restart it with
'ndc start,' should my DNS cache be purged?  I can not find a way to
purge my local DNS server's cache.

It proves to be very annoying when I change a DNS entry on a remote DNS server
and then I'm forced to wait for TTL's to expire before I can start using it
again :/
