RE: [OT] *gripe*
On the off-topic of NT and Linux administrators, I am surprised no-one has
mentioned the near automatic habit NT admins have of pressing 'CTL-ALT-DEL'
on the keyboard as the first thing they do when they touch any server. Can
have "surprising" results on other devices (Linux servers included if this
functionality is not disabled in init).
I look after NT boxes at work, and although I do not have the habit myself, I
have seen other NT admins walk up to various other boxes (including a box
running Linux, and box running a DOS program which assisted in controlling a
PABX for a <insert really big company name here>) and hit CTL-ALT-DEL.
To be fair this normally occurred when NT and other devices were on a KVM
switch. The NT admin works on a machine, locks keyboard (C-A-D) then goes out
the room for 10 mins to get something. Meanwhile someone else comes in,
switches KVM to another (non NT) device, does their thing and does not return
KVM back to the NT box. NT admin returns, presses C-A-D to log back in and
boom !
Usually followed by NT admin skulking out of room for an immediate "lunch
break" !
While we were off-topic ...
