How to restore from QIC Tape !

Howdie All,

I have half a dozen of QIC tapes that I want to restore tar files from, I
have a Tandberg Dat Tape drive and a SCSI (adaptec aha-2940w) controller
installed. I am running Linux 6.1 on a normal PC.

When I do :
	tar -xvpf /dev/st0

I get the following :
	tar: Humm, this doesn't look like a tar archive
	tar: skipping to next file header

I know for sure that these tapes contain tar files, the files were backuped
using a RS6000 on unix. Could this be a possibility that I need the same
machine to restore them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
