Well, I'd have to say that I've not had the same problems as what
you're reporting. I thrash keetoo.alfred.cx daily (over 100Mbps
switched network), as it's my CVSup server. That's got an Intel NIC
and a 3Com NIC, and I've not got any reason to complain.

Or just buy 3Com :-)
