We had a go here with a linux free s/wan box here tring to talk to
someone elses $20k commercial box. In the end it was found that free
s/wan had several longish keys compared to the commercial offering that
had something like a single 8 character key. Both were meant to be
IPSEC. We couldnt get them to talk, but Im pretty sure it was the $20k
box that was at fault, and 2 free s/wan boxen would have worked fine and
been cheaper and more secure. The hardware box was one of these:
