KDE 3 First Impressions

Hiya,

How many of you have tried out KDE 3? I'm using it on Mandrake 8.2 after
installing from pre-compiled binaries from the official KDE mirrors. The
MDK 8.2 compiled RPMs appear to be rather buggy, so I had to grab
updated RPMS from Texstar before sound would work. The whole set weighs
in at 115MB.

Overall it's very impressive in terms of new features and overall
responsiveness. It stuff like this that really impresses me about
developments in the Linux world. In terms of aesthetics, it borrows
elements from Windows XP, Mac OS X, and rolls in its own uniqueness.

I'll give it a go for another week, and if it's still good I might try
and install it on my Red Hat 7.2 machine at work.

If Konqueror 3 had multi-tabbing, I'd ditch Mozilla in an instant. Very
pleasant, and really shows how Konqueror can really duke it out with IE.

Stuff like this is what will bring Linux to even bigger crowd.

Cheers,
Joseph Tan
