Debian help,

Hi group,
I am looking for help in getting started.
Have an early version of potato installed but lilo didn't work so boot
from floppy (takes ages).
Also want to know how ap-get-upgrade works.
Looking for a patient teacher who wont abuse & say rtfm!!
