Re: encrypted DVD's

I am using Mplayer compiled with libdvdread and libdvdcss to play DVD's. It
is refreshing to just put a DVD in the drive and have it play. I have a
fairly fast CPU (> 1Ghz), so I cannot comment on how it will play on slower
CPU's, but on my machine full screen is not a problem, no dropped frames etc.

libdvdread and libdvdcss:

I also have a Hollywood Plus DVD decoder card, which can be utilised by
Mplayer to play DVD's to a TV through the SVideo connection, although I am
not 100% happy with the way this works (output can be jerky, and get out of
sync with sound).

Sometimes I wonder why I bother. I have $2000 of hardware that does not play
DVD's onto a TV as well as a $250 DVD player ! I guess I have fun trying
though.

What may be of interest to others though is that the Mplayer will play *any*
supported media type through the Hollywood plus card to the TV. At (last time
I checked) around $180 it is a relatively cheap way of getting a form of TV
out on a linux box.
