kernel help
howdy all.
i've installed redhat7.2 on my box as a bit of a learning project - it also
has win2k on it. i'm trying to get ntfs read support enabled, so i can read
the data off my other drives (ignoring write support for the moment). the
kernel howto on linuxdoc.org was some help, but it's geared towards older
kernels and lilo (not grub, as i've installed). so i need some help!
i got a kernel compiled, by doing 'make menuconfig' -> enable ntfs -> 'make
dep' -> 'make clean' -> 'make bzImage' -> 'make modules' -> 'make
modules_install' -> edit grub.conf and guess the params for the new entry
(they all use vmlinuz images, i'm using a bzImage file).
i tried botting the new kernel, and it loaded with some undefined symbol
error in ext3.o. i can mount an ntfs volume, but when i try and ls the
volume, it hangs the entire computer - won't even accept keyboard input, so i
can't do anything like switch to another console and kill ls.
so, the question is, how do i get ntfs support working? and what about ext3
with newer, non-redhat kernels? is there an updated kernel howto that i
haven't found?
thanks in advance :)
