RE: RedHat 6.2, X11, SSH & Win2K

Hello Jordan,
VNC does do well and you can set up your VNC to use whichever window
manager you want.
The link is
 http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/
It works reasonably well over ADSL so it will not have any problems on
a 10MB link.
You can also use it to remote control windows desktops too.

Subject: FW: RedHat 6.2, X11, SSH & Win2K

I'd like to set up a box running RedHat 6.2 so that I can serve X
applications on to my Windows desktop. I am not comfortable using Linux
as my primary desktop OS - Yet.

Essentially, I want to be able to play with a Linux desktop without
having to reboot when I want to do something that only my Windows OS can
do (so far). It also sounds like something fun to play with.

What are peoples experiences with this sort of thing? What's the best
software to use on the Windows side? I'm using SecureCRT which (from
what I've read so far) I can use initiate an ssh encrypted X Windows
session. I have sshd installed on the RedHat 6.2 box and normal shell
login is working nicely.

Is the RedHat box (225Mhz, 48MB, 2Gig) up to the task? Is such a setup
likely to flood my 10Mbps LAN? The RedHat box will also route my modem
connection and be running squid (for 2 users only) - should I expect a
performance hit? Am I going about this the wrong way?

Any tips/URLs greatly appreciated.

Jordan.
