Netscape does the same thing. They started visiting hellacious fury
on us when they invented the <BLINK> tag, and it hasn't really stopped
since.
[ I'm wondering about people with HTML mail readers, and whether the
rest of this message will be flashing because of the tag in my last
paragraph :-) ]
Other companies buy into the rot, and you end up with a world wide
web which doesn't work on half the browsers out there, with the web
developer having no idea why things aren't working properly. For example,
if you design a site with DreamWeaver, and use the DreamWeaver support
for pop-up menus, your site won't render correctly on a HTML/4.0 compliant
browser because DreamWeaver emits code specific for Netscape and IE
extensions. To whit: http://www.savingsloans.com.au , where I am
totally unable to use their online banking facility with Mozilla and
Opera, because some outsourced web developer somewhere chose to use
DreamWeaver to implement the site. Bah!
