Netscape does the same thing.  They started visiting hellacious fury
on us when they invented the <BLINK> tag, and it hasn't really stopped
since.

Other companies buy into the rot, and you end up with a world wide 
web which doesn't work on half the browsers out there, with the web 
developer having no idea why things aren't working properly.  For example,
if you design a site with DreamWeaver, and use the DreamWeaver support
for pop-up menus, your site won't render correctly on a HTML/4.0 compliant
browser because DreamWeaver emits code specific for Netscape and IE
extensions.  To whit:  http://www.savingsloans.com.au , where I am
totally unable to use their online banking facility with Mozilla and
Opera, because some outsourced web developer somewhere chose to use
DreamWeaver to implement the site.  Bah!
