As previously mentioned, simply designating ppp0 to come up on boot,
and setting the 'presistant' flag will acomplish the same thing. These
are all done in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-pppX
This has another advantage which is that
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts files are all 'understood', by
programmes such as netcfg, linuxconf, rp3, pcmcia management, etc
