thanks to an offlist suggestion to search on linuxppc.org, I came across
afpfs. However, it seems to be pretty much dead, apart from
http://www.panix.com/~dfoster/afpfs/, which doesn't appear to have been,
modified for a while (since kernel 2.2.5 ish), and it's certainly not
production ready...

Just in case anyone wanted to know... or has a desire to work on it ... ;)
... I would, but I haven't the time, macs, or skills... hmmm....
