Tim,
I'm fairly sure that ReiserFS can be used for /boot.
But the few times I tried it, the obstacle was the
requirement that the file system be at least 30 MB,
and that was bigger than I wanted.
It seems logical that ReiserFS should be okay for /boot
because the lilo boot sector just needs a list of
block indices to be abel to find the executable for the
second stage in booting,a nd that has nothing to do with
file systems at all. And if that second stage kernel software
contains driver software for the Reiser (virtual) file system,
it should have no problems from then on.
Until recently, I think that people have always been using
2-stage booting, in which case the second stage is the
full kernel, and this will contain all file systems that
you require.
