I do get it, but I think he's wrong. Stallman claims that a kernel
is not an operating system without the accompanying utilities. He
says that since the utilities are mostly GPLed, the operating system
is a Linux kernel with GNU utilities, hence GNU/Linux. I think that
downplays the importance of MIT and BSD, who are the other major
contributors, and it downplays the importance of emerging technologies,
such as KDE. As you said, if it's really BSD/MIT/KDE/GNU/.../Linux.
Well a rose by any other name; and that's all it is: another name for
Linux.
