I have the same issue with the linux automounter - I dislike it with a
passion.
I have a network with a shared /usr/local amongst linux-i686,
solaris7-sun4u, solaris2.6-sun4m, linux-sun4c.
All the systems get the same /usr/local/doc, /usr/local/share, etc as they
are system independant.
/usr/local/bin, /usr/local/lib are mounted to different locations based on
the architecture by the automounter.

Browsing on the solaris systems works like a treat, everything appears like
it is local.

Put your butt on the linux machine, and /usr/local appears as if it is
empty.

Also, another thing that sux0rs. The linux machine is the nfs server. The
automounter mounts /usr/local to the local machine (/export). When you cd
into /usr/local/share, and then "ls /usr/local", share appears as a soft
link to /export/local/share. So very gay.
