I still love my IBM ThinkPad A20p, which I bought quite late in the last
millenium.  It sports a 700MHz P-III, 128MB RAM, DVD-ROM, 1.44MB FDD,
7GB HDD, 1400 x 1050 pixel, 15" screen, ATI RAGE-128 video accelerator,
integrated 10/100Mbps ethernet, Lucent 56K LinModem, Crystal fusion sound,
integrated three button mouse, Dual PCMCIA slots, the usual serial,
parallel, USB, Video and PS/2 mouse ports, S-BUS video in and out, IRDA,
two crappy speakers and a microphone. And a cute button that says,
"ThinkPad", that only does something under Windows (Don't tell me;
I already know. When I get time, okay?)

It'd be nice if it had firewire, but hey: I can read and write tv, so
I get a great consolation prize. I do like the slot loaded DVD, but
it's handy being able to swap the DVD for a CDRW, or a second battery.
Apparently the port at the top of the screen is high-speed, for video
cameras and such, but it's hard to get any actual information, so maybe
that's just vapour.

I have to say it's a nice unit. Don't remember how much I paid, I think
somewhere around $7000.
