amusing TCP layer log file message
I just saw this in my log file:
May 17 18:52:00 dog kernel: TCP: peer 171.31.0.10:2806/8003 shrinks window 1773340756:3656:1773346548. Bad, what else can I say?
Obviously some joker has been writing silly things into
the TCP code!! The file is linux/net/ipv4/tcp_input.c.
(The file has 11 authors. So it's not clear who to credit with
this comment.)
171.31.0.10 => szfw.mol.hu
Obviously someone in Hungary has a dodgy TCP stack too.
Cheers,
Alan Kennington.
PS. For those who are not protocol engineers, there is a rule in
the TCP protocol that you never reduce the TCP window back to
before it was before.
