one of the points is that printers have significantly higher resolution than
monitors - compare 72dpi for a monitor with 360dpi for a not-so-great inkjet
printer. this makes it easier for our eyes to recognise shapes (words) and
thus easier to read, normally. for some people, reading large texts
on-screen is a pain.

and it's nice having paper sometimes ;-)

another advantage of paper is IMO being able to make notes around the edges
and highlight bits you use lots. that's one thing grealty missing when
reading online documentation. i've thought about this before  actually, and
thought: what if there was some kind of program that could overlay a magical
graphical layer over the top of what you were reading that you could type
your own notes on and draw on and everything, like normal paper? the stupid
ideas we have while in the smallest room in the house ;-)

speaking of which, paper can be taken places, it's a bit harder to take a
17" monitor to bed or to the loo ;-)
