Re: Unidentified subject! (Ip Masq and Squid)
(Appologies all, forgot to add a subject to the message)
Hi all,
I have a couple of questions about IP masq and squid
I am about to setup a machine to act as a gateway for about 15
clients with Telstra BPD. Now I realise that I can just get a subnet of
internet routeable addresses from them but I would rather learn how to use
IP MASQ and do it that way.. thus the following questions:
1. in the past I have setup aliases on eth0, eth0 being the
connection to the LAN, these aliases have been for example for mail,
nameserver and www. now if I am going to be using a private subnet for the
lan, eth0 must then have a private address, my question is then if I still
want to setup my aliases for the machine do I or can I rather, set them up
on the ppp0 connection, or can I still set them up on eth0??
2. If I use squid and explicitly only want www traffic to go through
to the outside world, do I have to actually MASQ the traffic, or if the
clients are using squid on the gateway will that cover it automatically??
Thanks to anyone who can offer some views on these questions,
Regards,
Michael
