NIS on Linux setup problems (was RE: Hi)

can you finger other users?
what error do you get when you try to log in as them?
do they have home directories?
does their shell exist?
are their accounts locked?
do you have the right passwords for them?
have you tried su - <user>?
do you have admin access to the nis server?
has your client been added to the server correctly? (usually something like
nis_add_client)
is your computer plugged in and switched on? (kidding!)
