POP3 server - MANDRAKE 7.2

David! and all who can answer me?

I am pretty pissed off, because i have been messing around with mandrake 7.2
for the past week or more and i cannot get it to do a simple thing like
serve mail to my desktop computer - where as Slackware 7.1 did it out of the
box! Yes i do want to use MDK, i need something more up to date, but more
importantly i need something that WORKS!

Here's my problem:

I installed MDK 7.2 - a customised install... I only installed what i
needed. e.g mail, inet, ipchains etc
Problem is, that when i try and connect to my server - it doesnt respond
with any e-mail back OR empty mailbox.

The ipop3d server IS running, if i enter in the wrong details, i get a
response asking for the right account details.

I am running the ipop3d and sendmail services from the INETD - and i get no
errors in the logs when INETD starts up.

I do however get this in my log when i try receive my mail:

Apr 20 20:08:29 woja ipop3d[805]: pop3 service init from 192.0.0.1
Apr 20 20:09:49 woja ipop3d[805]: Login user=adam host=[192.0.0.1] nmsgs=0/0
Apr 20 20:09:49 woja ipop3d[805]: Command stream end of file while reading
line
user=adam host=[192.0.0.1]
Apr 20 20:09:49 woja inetd[612]: pid 805: exit status 1

Is there any pop3 config file i have to edit?? i have tried man ipop3d or
man *pop* - there is nothing.

I do not have anything in my /etc/hosts.deny

I need all the help i can get - Why wouldnt the pop3 server be responding??

I cannot get a response from sendmail either - both running it by itself and
also as a inetd service.

PLEASE, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx for your time,

Adam W.
