verb bad file system or sendmail/procmail error!#$@

This is now looking more like a real problem and less like
a glitch.
Every now and then, a log file (of which I have dozens)
on my shiny new SuSE 7.1 (kernel 2.4.0) machine with
a ReiserFS file system develops a block of nulls.
This is clearly due to some sort of incomplete closing of a file
or something.

Here's a sample from my incoming e-mail folder:

I have no idea who gina is, by the way.

Now this is the kind of thing I saw a few times when I intentionally
turned the machine off while it was running - e.g. when the system
locked up while trying to configure the PS2 mouse.

I wasn't expecting this sort of disaster whiel the sytem
is running completely normally.

Questions:
Is this a known problem?
Is it a ReiserFS problem, or a kernel 2.4.0 problem?
Any clues on what I should do about it?
