AUUG SA chapter: Call for nominations, next meeting
On 13 March 2001, a number of AUUG members submitted a petition to the
AUUG Executive Committee requesting the reestablishment of AUUG's SA
chapter. I am pleased to inform you that the AUUG Executive Committee
has approved this petition, and we are now ready to restart the
chapter.
The first issue we will have is to form a committee consisting of at
least a chairman, a secretary and a treasurer. It will be up to this
committee to decide whether further members are desirable. The SA
members of the AUUG executive committee, Sarah Bolderoff, David Newall
and myself, do not intend to stand for office, though we will be of
assistance setting things up.
Our next meeting is planned for Wednesday, 11 April. I would like to
be able to elect the committee at this meeting. Please send
nominations to the AUUG Executive Committee <auugexec@auug.org.au>.
Committee members must be full members of the AUUG. Student members
are not eligible. You can sign up or upgrade your membership status
at the meeting, however.
At the last meeting we discussed the idea of having our meetings in a
private dining room in a restaurant. The BALUG (San Francisco Bay
Area Linux Users Group) does that, and I find it pretty successful.
I'd be interested in other people's opinions. Also, if you agree with
this idea, I'd be interested in any possible venues that you might
know.
Greg
