Re: problem with login to redhat 6.2
Geoff is a personal friend of mine, has been for years
so ill do a quick reply for him :)
Im sure he would do an nslooup, IF he could log in..
What he told me, and said to the list was
Machine worked fine.
He rebooted his machine.
He then doing a local logon (via monitor and keyboard on the computer
itself)
it asks for username, put that in, press enter, system then sits there
without bring a password prompt up.
He then tried to login via the network, it comes up with his "redhat 6.1 etc
etc etc"
and does NOt ask for a username OR a password, connection sits there doing
nothing.
Im fairly sure he could single user mode login, but the problem is, what
would he be actually looking at to fix this problem?
Regards,
Adam

DNS lookup? What happens when you lookup (from your redhat 6.1 machine)
the name for the ip address of the machine you are telneting from? Do
that by "nslookup a.b.c.d", where a.b.c.d is the ip address. It should
quickly come back with a hostname. If it doesn't that will be your
problem.
