That would be terribly disappointing if it was true.  If a resolver didn't
work with any rfc compliant DNS it wouldn't be a terribly useful resolver.

Loose explanation for those uncertain of terminology: the resolver is
the library routine that takes a hostname and queries a server for that
host's IP address, or the reverse; and the DNS is the server that contains
mappings between names and addresses.  Most of your internet applications
use the resolver to do the necessary name and address translations.
The resolver talks to a DNS which does the actual translation.
