Andrew,

I tried it a few weeks ago, and it was so much work, I installed
8.2.3 on my machines instead.

The easy things were:

-	Add the line
	$TTL 86400
at the top of each zone file.

-	Most of the /etc/named.conf options are no longer valid,
	but they are just ignored.

The difficult thing for me was the fact that the RAM required
seemed to be 5 times as much as for 8.2.3.
9.1 also uses a big heap of disk space.
That was an issue on my old name server machine (which I am now
taking 3-4 weeks to convert over to a new machine with a shiny
new linux OS.)

Cheers,
Alan Kennington.
