Getting in-built sound card to work

Howdy all,

I've just upgraded my M/B & CPU to an AMD Duron 700 based
system (really flies!). The M/B uses the VIA Technologies sound
chip, but I can't get it to work. Linux knows about it (I'm currently
running the latest 2.4.0 Mandrake cooker kernel), but says that
it's currently unsupported, even though there's a module for the
specific chipset that I've got.

Has anyone had any experience getting one of these built-in
sound chips to work? The exact chipset is a VIA Technologies
VT82C686 (Apollo Super AC97). It supposedly emulates the
good 'ol Sound Blaster xx sound cards, but I've tried that, and
that doesn't want to work either.

Thanks,

Dean
