Amanda backups (again)

Hi all,

I'm having more trouble with my Amanda configuration. It did look like
the tapes were at fault, but brand new tapes haven't made a scrap of
difference (except to the IT budget). Whenever I try to restore from
tape, gzip returns an error, telling me 'Invalid compressed data--format
violated'. I have checked for open files (most of the machines just
share things out using Samba, so I stopped Samba well before the backups
started and restarted it after).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find the solution to
this problem?
