It's more than likely a tape problem. If I recall correctly it can also
occur if:
* you use tar to backup
* file changes while amanda is reading it
Which stuffs up one or a few files out of many in a tar archive.
If you are using a different tape drive to restore from, hardware
compression could be getting in the way. I've seen two identical
(supposedly) model tape drives not be able to understand each others
hardware compression.
If all else fails, do a manual dump to the tape using the dumping
program you use (and gzip it if you are compressing) and see whether you
can manually do it. You could also try using dd and mt to get the
restores off tape; doco in is the untarred source directory, docs and
restore.
