RE: Newbie Question on Modem setup

David's gonna get gee'd up again coz another newbie has posted in HTML :P
Never mind, i would suggest Holger, that when sending an e-mail to linuxsa
that you select Plain Text in the format menu - just so people using Text
based e-mail clients dont get uptight :)

Anyway, Have you tried throwing another modem on that port?? one you know
works?? Or does this modem work fine on that same serial port in another OS?

If not, try checking inside the box to make sure the port is plugged in (if
its an AT style MB) and if its an ATX try ttyS0 :)

Thats all i can suggest.

Adam W.

Subject: Newbie Question on Modem setup

Hello all,

I'm trying to setup my first linux box and am having trouble getting my
modem to work. It is an external modem attached to /dev/ttyS1. I've checked
the BIOS for the IRQ and IO Port setting and checked that linux is using the
same ones via the setserial -ga /dev/ttyS1 command. I've run wvdialconf to
search for a modem and it fails to recognise a modem on the serial port. All
of the ppp setup utils are faling to detect my modem. To ensure that it
isn't a windows only modem I had a friend setup it up on their linux box
and it worked. I'm pretty frustrated and all out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Holger
