Installing Linux After NT Problems
This isnt a problem request but a problem solution to someone I can
remember posting about this problem a week or so ago.
When you install linux and put lilo in the mbr, adding the former nt
partition to to lilo.conf and you get the following error when
subsequently attempting boot to NT:
Windows cannot find the file <windows root>\winnt\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
- Please install a new copy of this file
(or something to that effect)
The problem is this:
Somehow, in the way that NT sees the hard disk, installing linux changes
partition numbers that it uses in boot.ini.
All you have to do to fix it is change X in the part
<blah>partition(X)<blah>
to either X-1 or X+1 (or whatever the case may be - look at the
partition layout and it makes sense as to what windows is attempting
with this notation and what you should change it to).
