Probably obvious, and perhaps wrong but, have you got the package
[Mesa-common-devel-3.3-14mdk.i586.rpm] installed (or perhaps other
devel packages like [Glide_V2-devel-2.53-4mdk.i586.rpm])?

If not, these are normally the packages that set up the header files
neccessary to compile software for Mesa and Glide programs. You might
have already checked, but anyway.

P.S. I'm usually confused as well :)
